Mount Amiata hosts a significant geothermal field, unmistakeably related to volcanic activity, which has been, in the past 50 yr, the object of intense geological and geophysical exploration, including deep wells and seismic reflection profiles (Calamai et al; Sbrana et al). The Mountain Geologist is the quarterly peer-reviewed journal published by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists (RMAG).Issues are published digitally online in January, April, July and October of each year. The Mountain Geologist circulates to more than members of the RMAG and about university and government libraries and industry associations.

Geothermics (i) - VOL. 4, Nos. ~-4 Seismic Noise Measurements in the Mt, Amiata Geothermal Area, Italy E. DEL PEZZO *, I. GUERRA *, G. LUONGO * ANt) R. SCARPA * ABSTRACT A seismic noise study has been carried out on the well- known Mt.

Amiata geothermal area; the aim of this work is to understand the correlation between the geothermal system and seismic noise by: 4. The tectonic evolution of the Mt Amiata volcano-geothermal area is under discussion.

Some authors state that this region, as well as the hinterland of the Northern Apennines, were affected by compression from the Cretaceous to the Quaternary.

In contrast, most authors believe that extension drove the tectonic evolution of the Northern Apennines from the Early Miocene to the Quaternary. Field Cited by:   Calamai A, Cataldi R, Squarci P, and Taffi L () Geology, geophysics and hydrogeology of the Monte Amiata geothermal fields.

David R. Lageson Professor of Structural Geology Source: Schmidt, R.G.,Geologic map of the Craig quadrangle, Lewis and Clark and Cascade Counties, Montana: U.S. Geological Survey GQ,In this paper we build a subsurface model that helps in visualizing and understanding the structural framework, geology and their interactions with the Mt.

Amiata geothermal system. Modelling in 3D provides the possibility to interpolate the geometry of structures and is an effective way of understanding geological features.

The 3D modelling approach appears to be crucial for further progress. Mining activities together with geophysical surveys allowed a first scientific elaboration of this surface (Calamai et al. The conceptual hydrogeological model of the Viterbo thermal area in central Italy and the yield of the groundwater sys- tem have been examined.

This area is of great geothermal interest. Through new investigations, three overlapping aquifers have been found.

This study examines in detail the two shallower aquifers, characterized by different hydraulic and chemical characteristics.

Geology. Mount Amiata (La Vetta) is a compound lava dome with a trachytic lava flow that extends to the east. It is part of the larger Amiata complex volcano. A massive viscous trachydacitic lava flow, 5 km long and 4 km wide, is part of the basal complex and extends from beneath the southern base of Corno de Bellaria dome.Geology, geophysics and hydrogeology of the Monte Amiata geothermal field Pisa - CNR - Istituto internazionale per le ricerche geotermiche, Testo Monografico Geoloski anali Balkanckoga poluoctrva Beograd - Universitet-Geoloski Institut, Pubblicazione Periodica.CALAMAI A., CATALDI R., SQUARCI P.
